new to politics, but learning guickly. Can someone please explain to me WHY the republicans can keep ignoring with a straight face trumps behavior? And how and why be continually gets away with pushing legal limits in the White House, and everyone seemingly gives him a pass on all these areas that his actions cause him to be ina gray area of political correctness.

Hey, the evangelicals were making the news circuit and they have forgiven him for his affair with a porn star because it happened before he was president so therefore it doesn't count!!!  What ever kind of ethics do they have.  No wonder they back trump, they are all in the same bed.....

Agreed otmichele. I thought exactly the same thing..what hypocrisy! It's sad that Trump still has supporters...of any kind!

Hi Lbritt and welcome to the forum. I am somewhat new to politics too..unfortunately began to pay (maybe too much) attention once this creep Trump took office...but I  am as baffled as you are on why the Republicans in the GOP, House and Senate currently continue to placate Trump and let him get away with well..everything...but I have a few ideas just based off of mainstream TV news watching and reading and well..observing so I will share them..If I'm repeating myself to some of you my apologies but here is my opinion-because there HAVE to be reasons they would do this: 1. They are being paid off in some way by Trump, his associates and perhaps even the Russians..thought I read something about Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan getting tons of money from big Republican donors after the tax SAM was passed...and/or they owe Trump money 2. They want to keep a highly conservative Republican in office who will pretty much sign anything they put in front of them while they control the house and the Senate so they can get their mean bills passed 3. They may be being bribed, threatened or both by Trump, his Attorneys and/or the Russians and maybe other hostile countries 3. They will go to any lengths to avoid Democrats or Independents being involved in their bills  4. They think the majority of "the Republican base" is still with Trump..even with his low poll rating numbers and lastly - I truly believe that they lack moral character or a heart of any kind..I think it's all about money, power and image versus anything else and nothing about the American (or other countries!) people. You will notice that more career Republican retirements at the end of 2017 and/or 2018 are happening than ever before...perhaps all do not state the reason but I believe it is Trump. Here's the hope-people like Tom Steyer, Robert Muller and team and the multiple State Attorney Generals who are "standing by" in case the Russia probe gets squashed...remember, 4 million people voted for Hillary Clinton, that's not even including those who chose to not vote at all, write in a candidate or vote for an Independent..he did not win the popular vote so most of the nation can not stand him.
I hope this helps. It also baffles me why select Republicans are actively trying to make the Russia probe go away and the others just are silent...but their day will come!

Welcome to the forum Lbritt!

My two cents. The Republicans are putting Party and their policies over Country and it's Constitution as a means of getting what they want. I think they see this opportunity, majorities in the House, the Senate and  a ????? Republican President, as their goose that lays the golden egg. Before the campaign most Republicans were against Trump, but since he was elected (and I use that term loosely) they are hell bent on pushing through as much of their agenda as possible no matter what he says, does or doesn't do. Some, like Nunes,  will go so far as trying to divert attention from Trump and put it elsewhere, like secret societies and disparaging the FBI or throw up some other type of road block to Mueller's investigation (which I would think could be considered obstruction too). If the FBI is able to show Trump colluded or conspired with Russia there goes their goose and the same for Trump's possible obstruction of Justice. I think if and when Mueller's investigation shows either one or both to be true, the Republicans will really have no choice but to start doing their constitutional duty. I'm sure there is more going on than is known, but this is what I make of it so far.

Otmichele- I agree also. The evangelicals don't want anything to upset their agenda either. So if it gets them what they want, they'd probably make a deal with the devil himself, if they haven't already.

Locke defines tyranny as "the exercise of power beyond right." A just leader is bound by the laws of the legislative and works for the people, whereas a tyrant breaks the laws and acts on his own behalf

Agreed droberts...on everything you have said here...your "two cents" is also my "two cents."

I also wish to welcome you here to this forum.

As to your question, the answer is easy. Republicans fear Trump and refuse to rattle his cage for fear of his retaliation.

They know that they are in a losing battle to be re-elected and hide in the hopes that the voters will not recall what Trumpism did to America. IMO

The party is the problem as well as Trump.

America will recover when Trump is gone.

Delta Flight, I agree with you about your response to Lbritt - but do you really think all of these Republicans are afraid of a man bully baby who has the lowest approval rating in history so this is why they are behaving...well, like the man baby? My husband thinks this too but many are career people...and what can Trump do them aside from threaten? The people elect them...and they could have another Republican POTUS (such as he is!) in Pence. I agree that now as in the times we are in now the party is definitely the problem...Trump could NOT get by with what he has thus far gotten by with without the assistance of people like sleazy Paul Ryan-and the disgusting GOP members attacking the FBI and DOJ....as much as I can stand Sessions he did a few things right...and do you really think they are threatening to publicize the Steele Dossier and going after our sacred institutions (if not perfect, still well run I say) out of fear? Seems odd to me..I smell multiple rats here..as they say it does not pass "the smell test" to me..but you could be right. Trump throws a mean tantrum and has bullying and bribery down to a fine art.
